Five Tankers, Named and Sunk
US Central Command said its forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers after the Revolutionary Guard attempted to strike a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice in two days. The vessels were the M/T Kaviz, M/T Charminar, M/T Horizon 1 and M/T Riesco in the Gulf of Oman, and the M/T Derya near Kharg Island. As on Day 190, American forces directed the crews to abandon ship before the vessels were struck and rendered inoperable; no casualties were reported. CENTCOM published video of the Riesco sinking. The warship, it said, "successfully evaded the attempted Iranian attacks" with no American personnel harmed. It is the largest single day of tanker destruction of the war, and it raises the price Admiral Cooper set four days ago: three Iranian vessels for two American ships fired upon has become five.
Twenty Missiles at Al-Azraq
The IRGC confirmed the loss of the five tankers and retaliated by subjecting the Al-Azraq air base in Jordan to what it called "fierce missile strikes", claiming hangars used by US fighter jets had been destroyed. The Jordanian Armed Forces said their air defences engaged 20 ballistic missiles and intercepted and destroyed 18 of them, with the remaining two falling in unpopulated areas and no casualties resulting. Al-Azraq, formally Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, has now been struck or targeted repeatedly since Day 152 — it is the address Iran uses when it wants to hit American airpower without hitting America.
Claims That Outrun the Evidence
Iran’s account of the day is considerably larger than anyone else’s. The IRGC claimed ballistic missile strikes on the US destroyers DDG-119 and DDG-53 causing significant damage, and said it had attacked ten ships near the Strait of Hormuz — two American vessels and eight tankers. CENTCOM’s answer was flat: "All IRGC attempted attacks failed." The Pentagon has released no damage assessments, and independent verification in the Gulf of Oman is not possible. None of the ten claimed ship attacks has been confirmed by any party. One incident is corroborated: UKMTO reported a vessel struck by a projectile 52 kilometres southeast of al-Faw, Iraq. The Houthis Reach Jeddah
Houthi missile attacks on Saudi cities and energy infrastructure extended to Jeddah, with 24 casualties logged. The reach matters more than the number: Jeddah sits on the Red Sea roughly a thousand kilometres from the Yemeni border, is Saudi Arabia’s second city and its principal Red Sea port. Yesterday’s attacks hit the southern border provinces; this one reaches the middle of the corridor Riyadh has been using since Hormuz closed.
Brent Above $99
Brent crude exceeded $99 a barrel as the exchange escalated, with reporting linking the move to higher inflation expectations and the prospect of higher interest rates. Oil has now risen through the entire period since the pause ended on Day 184, when it sat in the low eighties.
Syria: A Weapons Depot at Sarmada
A massive explosion at a weapons depot at Sarmada in Syria’s Idlib province killed at least 14 people according to state television. No attribution was established in reporting. In Gaza, an Israeli strike hit a home in the al-Shati refugee camp, and Saudi aircraft struck Houthi military positions in Sanaa while government forces pressed their offensive on the western coast at Hodeidah.

Tracker status holds at WAR RESUMED. Day 194 is the sharpest single day of the tanker war and the clearest illustration of its asymmetry. The United States destroys named vessels, films one sinking and warns the crews first; Iran claims damage to warships and ten ships struck, and produces nothing. The material exchange is five Iranian tankers for eighteen intercepted missiles and two that landed in empty desert. Meanwhile the Houthis have carried the war a thousand kilometres up the Red Sea to Jeddah, and Brent is above $99 with no negotiation under way on any front.
