No Strike, More Fires: Trump Steps Back From an Immediate Attack, Oil Slides to $93, and the IRGC Reports More Tankers Burning

Verified events · Official sources · Chronological ledger

Day 251 in one line: Washington stepped back from the strike US media had pointed to, the oil market took that as a sign of diplomacy, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard reported three more tankers burning in the strait.

Three More Tankers

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reported three more tankers damaged in the Strait of Hormuz — two after striking naval mines and another after catching fire — saying the vessels had tried to use unauthorized routes; Drop Site described the incidents as two tankers and a tugboat catching fire. Britain’s maritime agency reported a tanker attacked near Qatar. Reuters said attacks on tankers in the Gulf were running close to a record pace. The IRGC claims have not been independently verified; South Korea said it planned to expand its naval mission near the strait.

"No Immediate Plans"

Trump said the United States had no immediate plans to strike Iran and called the November 2 strike a minor attack. He was reported to be weighing three broad options: renewed strikes, a negotiated agreement, or continued blockade and sanctions. In the Oval Office he dismissed talks that did not involve the United States. The November 4 strike window cited in earlier reporting passed without a confirmed attack. Brent crude slid toward $93 a barrel as markets bet on diplomacy. CBS reported Trump had asked advisers whether he should remove Defense Secretary Hegseth.

Qatar’s Three Days

Qatari mediators were seeking US and Iranian backing for a draft agreement built on a three-day sequence of confidence-building steps, which Gulf News reported could restart direct talks within days. Gulf News said Iran’s conditions centre on an end to the US blockade, sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds. Neither side announced a breakthrough. Iran turned to Beijing and Moscow for backing; Rezaei said President Putin had condemned US and Israeli attacks on Iran and offered Russian help in ending the war.

"A Losing Gambler"

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Vice President Vance’s opposite number at earlier talks, accused Vance of letting Trump double down like a "losing gambler" by planning more strikes, and accused the US of putting Israel first; Vance had said the Iran war contributed to his party’s election losses. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said the US election results would not change Washington’s hostility toward Tehran. The US Treasury sanctioned Indian and Turkish firms over alleged ties to Iranian oil and aviation. This tracker does not cover the US election results.

Status Assessment

Tracker status holds at WAR RESUMED. Day 251 lowers the temperature in Washington without lowering it at sea: no immediate US strike, oil at $93, a Qatari three-day draft in circulation — and three more tankers reported damaged in the strait, with Iran’s leaders reading the American vote as a reason to hold their terms. No ceasefire is in force.
