The Mediator’s Ship: Qatar’s LNG Carrier Is Hit on a Passage Iran Had Cleared, Doha Reserves Its Rights, and Tehran Says There Is No Result Yet

Verified events · Official sources · Chronological ledger

Day 247 in one line: the ship of the war’s chief mediator was hit on a passage Iran had reportedly cleared, two days before the American vote that ends Trump’s no-strike pledge.

Al Mayeda

The Qatar Gas Transport Company, Nakilat, said in a stock-exchange filing on Sunday that its LNG carrier Al Mayeda was struck by unidentified objects while transiting Gulf waters on the evening of Friday, October 30. The crew were unharmed, the ship remained in a safe and operational condition, and there was no environmental impact; the damage was being assessed. Bloomberg, citing people with direct knowledge, reported that the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel was carrying Qatari LNG and that Pakistan had negotiated with Iran to secure its safe passage before it was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz. No one has claimed the attack. It is recorded here on the day it was disclosed, with the attack itself dated October 30.

Doha Reserves Its Rights

Qatar’s foreign ministry expressed its strong condemnation of the attack and said Qatar reserves its right to take all necessary measures, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter, to protect its assets, vessels and crews. Bahrain called on the UN Security Council to take decisive action and hold the perpetrators accountable; the Gulf Cooperation Council, the UAE and Yemen’s internationally recognised government also condemned it. Qatar has been the main mediator of the US-Iran talks, and its delegation was in Tehran on October 30.

"No Result Yet"

Foreign Minister Araghchi said a result had not yet been reached in the talks, and said he hoped for rationality on the US side; indirect talks were reported to be continuing. Trump said the war would be put away very soon, one way or the other. Iran’s formal answer to the Qatari draft has not been reported delivered.

Status Assessment

Tracker status holds at WAR RESUMED. Day 247 ends the pre-election stretch with the mediator itself under fire: a Qatari LNG carrier hit on a passage Iran had reportedly cleared, Doha reserving its rights, and no result in the talks. Trump’s pledge of no US strikes on Iran runs to the November 3 midterms, two days away; US forces are reported ready to act within 96 hours of an order. No ceasefire is in force.
