Day 200 in one line: on the two-hundredth day the President’s own party lost seven votes in the House on ending the war, his Vice President said it would change character within months, and none of it touched a strait that saw one more tanker hit.
The House Votes to End It, 220 to 204
Late on Tuesday the Republican-led House adopted a concurrent resolution, led by Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, calling on the President to terminate the use of US armed forces in hostilities against Iran. Seven Republicans voted with every Democrat present: Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Warren Davidson of Ohio, Tom Barrett of Michigan, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, and both Iowa Republicans, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn. The resolution is symbolic — it expresses the sentiment of the House, carries no force of law, and is not presented to the President — and it now goes to the Senate, which killed a binding version 47 to 53 in March.
The Trend Line Inside the Vote
This is the third time the House has been asked the question and the second time it has said yes. On March 5, a binding Massie-Khanna resolution failed 212 to 219 with two Republicans in favour. On July 23, a symbolic resolution passed with four. On September 15 it passed with seven. The defection count has grown at each vote, the two Iowa members are new, and the war is now seven weeks from a midterm election that the President himself has said will bracket its end. This tracker records the number, not the motive.
Vance: "A Much Different Phase in a Couple of Months"
Vice President Vance said the war would move to "a much different phase in a couple of months." Taken with Trump’s Day 197 prediction that the war ends after the midterms and his Day 199 statement that Washington is open to the concept of a deal, the administration is for the first time describing a horizon rather than a doctrine. What the different phase consists of was not said. This tracker logs the three statements as a sequence and draws no conclusion from them that the facts on the water do not support.
One More Tanker, and a Fact Check
UKMTO reported a tanker attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday morning. CENTCOM, meanwhile, issued what it called a fact check on the IRGC’s claim that the El Gaia struck a mine, describing the claim as "lies and intimidation attempts" intended to impede commercial vessels, and restating that Iran struck the ship twice. Iran denied any involvement in Yemen’s war as the Houthis launched further missile and drone attacks on Saudi military targets and Saudi aircraft struck back.
Brent at $105.70, and a Nuclear File Reopened
Brent traded at $105.70 after surging above $107 on the Saudi pipeline closure, with Gulf states having shelved the Hormuz talks. TankerTrackers described signs of recovery in strait traffic on satellite imagery — bi-directional daytime VLCC movement — while noting Gulf oil flows remain far below normal. Separately, the International Atomic Energy Agency said it had conducted almost no inspections in Iran for more than six months, reintroducing the question the war was ostensibly fought over into a conflict that has been about shipping since July.
Status Assessment
Tracker status holds at WAR RESUMED. Day 200 is the first day on which the political weather in Washington moved against the war faster than the military situation moved in either direction. The House vote does not bind; the Vice President’s phase has no content; the President’s openness has no channel. But three signals in four days from three branches of the same administration all point at an ending, and the Congress that declined to stop this war in March has now asked it to stop twice. On the water: one more tanker hit, the strait shut, Brent above $105, and an inspector who has not been let in for six months.
